Hezbollah chief blames Sunni extremists for attacks on group’s strongholds

BEIRUT - The leader of the militant Hezbollah in Lebanon Sunni extremists accused by a series of attacks against the strongholds of the group.

Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah says the preliminary investigation shows takfiris groups - a term for Sunni radicals - was probably behind the attack on Thursday in a predominantly Shiite neighborhood in southern Beirut, which killed 22 people and wounded more than 300, and other recent attacks.

He said in a speech to supporters Friday was the end of the month after the 2006 war with Israel.

Nasrallah said there was nothing to show that Israel was involved in the attacks, but added that extremists could work for the Jewish state.

He added that the Sunnis will not be held responsible for takfiris "are murderers who belong to any religion or sect."
